LATEST SHORT VERSION:

PURE has been making uncompromising electronic music since 1992. On stage he sculpts abstract sonic stories from evolving textures, pulsating repetitions and dynamic breaks using both hard- and software that equally affect the listener’s brains and bodies.

He has over 30 physical and digital releases on labels such as Editions Mego as BOLDER (with Martin Maischein), PURE and ILSA GOLD, on Hinterzimmer with his electronic percussion duo PRSZR (with Rafal Iwanski), on Crónica, Praxis, Staalplaat, Drop Bass Network and many more.

He developed the HEART CHAMBER ORCHESTRA together with Erich Berger; an award-winning audio-visual realtime composition for 12 musicians in which the heartbeats of the musicians create a score in realtime.

His early-90ies Rave prank-duo ILSA GOLD (together with Christopher Just) was the first internationally acknowledged Austrian techno act and is still occasionally active.

His current Berlin-related activities include “Slowlands” – a monthly whisky-only bar night – and the world’s first Whisky & Doom Metal tasting series “Taste The Doom” (with Lars Lundehave Hansen).

He holds a Master degree in Computer Music from the University of Plymouth (UK).

LONG VERSION:

– originating from Vienna/Austria

– works and lives in Berlin/Germany

PURE has been making electronic music since 1992. He creates hypnotic, soundtrack-like pieces that trigger associations of abstract movies and science fiction novels using a mix of electroacoustic composition, sound synthesis, and live electronics.

He has over 30 physical and digital releases of solo and collaborative works in different styles under various pseudonyms on such labels as Editions Mego (at), Hinterzimmer (ch), Crónica (pt), Staalplaat (nl), Praxis (ch) and others. He has played at numerous festivals around Europe and America, such as Argos (be), Club Transmediale (de), FILE (br), Mutek (ca), RGB v1 (fr), Sendandreceive (ca), Phonotaktik (usa).

Being one of the driving forces behind bringing techno culture to Vienna in 1991 as DJ, producer and organizer, he departed from this style soon after to move on to further less explored and harsher fields of electronic dance music for the next years. His turn towards experimental electronic music in the second half of the nineties went hand in hand with getting into programming his own music software. He uses this knowledge since then for computer based live performances and teaching at various Universities and education facilities. Recently he started to reintegrate beat-oriented compositions into his live performances creating a dynamic collage of abstract soundscapes and heavy, bodily music.

His early-90ies Rave prank-duo ILSA GOLD ( together with Christopher Just) was the first internationally acknowledged Austrian techno act and is still occasionally active.

Since 2003 he developed the HEART CHAMBER ORCHESTRA together with Erich Berger; an award-winning audio-visual realtime composition for 12 musicians in which the heartbeats of the musicians create a score in realtime. While the musicians perform they generate the compositon as well as an animated graphical representation. HCO performed so far in Trondheim (NO), The Hague (NL), Graz (AT), Helsinki (FI), Sao Paulo (BR), Murcia (SP), Rennes (FR), and Houston (USA).

In 2010 his HEART CHAMBER ORCHESTRA won the 2nd prize at the FILE PRIX LUX award and received an Honorary Mention from the PRIX ARS ELECTRONICA and VIDA 13.0 AWARD.

His latest full length release “Hostile Environment” by his duo BOLDER was released on Editions Mego in 2014. In 2012 he released “Equilirium” as PRSZR (a collaboration with polish percussion duo HATI) on swiss label Hinterzimmer and his last studio album “Ification” was released in 2009 by Porto based label Cronica Electronica.

Current activities include working on a second album with PRSZR, his next solo album and last but not least running his legendary whisky & Doom Metal tasting series “Taste The Doom” (with Lars Lundehave Hansen).

He holds a Master degree in Computer Music from the University of Plymouth (UK).
